Health Benefits of Coffee

Having a cup of coffee in the morning is a great way to start your day, but possibly not for the reasons most people consider. Coffee is an easy and fast way to increase your daily caffeine intake and make you feel more alert, but it also has healthy properties of which few people are aware.
Caffeine's secret benefits
What if your coffee could do more than just accompany your morning doughnut? Caffeine can perk you up in the morning like nothing else. A cup of coffee has roughly as much caffeine as five regular sodas. But caffeine has many healthy benefits in addition to your daily jolt of alertness. There is some evidence that it can treat migraines and stop a minor headache in under three minutes.
Other benefits of coffee
Recent studies show that drinking coffee can have a very positive effect on your overall health. Coffee drinkers are less likely to contract a slew of diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, various types of cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, Parkinson's disease and dementia. In addition to a lower likelihood of disease development, coffee decreases the risk of having a stroke. It also acts as a diuretic which helps to rid the body of toxins.
While doctors are not yet extolling coffee as a "super food," they certainly are not downplaying its importance in the diet. Coffee may have an adverse effect on some people with heart conditions or a caffeine sensitivity, but it contains antioxidants and other powerful compounds that are too beneficial to ignore.
